IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility conditions listed below are the basic criteria for applying. IBPS clarifies that qualifying in the CRP and being provisionally allotted to a bank does not guarantee a job; the final decision regarding appointment rests solely with the respective bank.

  • Nationality: – A citizen of India, or a citizen of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before 01-01-1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from specific countries and holds an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.
  • Educational Qualification: – A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by the Government of India, or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.
  • Local language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the local language (of their choice) of the State/UT for which they are applying (Local Language Proficiency Test section).
  • Computer Literacy: A certificate, diploma, or degree in computer operations is required, or one must have studied computer science or IT as a subject in high school or college.
  • Ex- Servicemen: Ex-servicemen who do not possess the civil educational qualifications mentioned above are also eligible if they have passed the matriculation examination and obtained the ‘Army Special Certificate of Education’ (or an equivalent certificate from the Navy or Air Force) after completing at least 15 years of service in the armed forces, provided that the certificate was issued on or before 21-08-2026.

  • Negative Marking: 1/4th (0.25) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer in both the Preliminary and Main Examination.
  • Unattempted Questions: No marks will be deducted for questions that are left unanswered.
  • Sectional Cut-off: Candidates must clear the required cut-off in each individual test/section.
  • Overall Cut-off: Candidates must also meet the overall cut-off to qualify for the next stage.
